Step 1: Determine your style

First determine what style you have. Look closely at our Sample pictures. Then measure your existing siding by doing the following.

Measure the width of the groove. The groove is the part that is cut into the surface of the wood. Chances are the groove will be either 1/8" of an inch wide (the thickness of two nickels placed together) or the groove will be 3/8" of an inch wide (the thickness of the body of a pencil). Below is an end view of the siding. Note the grooves and the space between the grooves. Some people get the two confused. The red lines represent the groove, and the blue lines represent the space between the grooves.


Next measure the space between the grooves.



Then measure the depth of the groove. If you have the very narrow grooves that measure 1/8" wide, this will be difficult, but you don't have to be exact on this measurement.

If your groove measures 1/8" wide and the space between the grooves is 1 and 1/2", and the depth of the groove is about 1/8" you have the Thinline pattern.

If your groove measures 3/8" wide and the space between the grooves is 1 and /8", and the depth of the groove is about 1/4" you have the Wideline pattern.

If your groove measures 3/16" wide and the space between the grooves is 8" and the siding has a "swirl texture" you have Plank-Tex.

What if my pattern is not any of the above?

If your pattern seems not match any of the above, please call us and let us know what your measurements are. We may be able to custom mill what you have, or find you another solution. If you have trouble making the measurements, call us and we will walk you through the process.

Step 2: Determine how many sheets you need

All of our siding comes in 4 foot wide sheets. Many of them are available in 8 foot, 9 foot, or 10 foot lengths. So if you wall is 16 feet wide, you would need 4 sheets. You will also need to measure how high you wall is to determine the length of the sheets you need. When measuring the height of your wall, be careful, often it will measure 8 feet and just a few inches over. If that is the case, you will need a 9 foot panel. If you are using a contractor to do the work, he can do all this measuring for you.

Step 3: Place your order

We do most of our milling on a custom basis. However, we do keep some patterns and sizes in stock. It is best to work with a 1 week lead time. Call us and we can give you a firm date on when your material will be ready. If you need the material delivered, give us a call and we can let you what the cost will be depending on your location. Also, you are always welcome to make arrangements to pick up your order in Novato.
